Depending upon a river's discharge and velocity as well as the size of its
channel, rivers are capable of transporting large quantities of sediment ranging
in size from fine clays to heavy boulders. As the velocity of river water decreases,
deposition occurs. Having been transported great distances, sediments may come
to rest at locations where the composition of surrounding bedrock is not at
all similar to that of the deposited bedload. In the illustration arrows point
to 3 boulders in particular that do not match the composition of the surrounding
bedrock environment.
Is this illustration best showing the process of weathering or that of erosion?
